What it is
IRMAA is an income-based surcharge added to standard Part B and Part D premiums. SSA determines it each year using your IRS-reported income from two years earlier (MAGI). Life-changing events — retirement, divorce, death of a spouse — can qualify for reconsideration via form SSA-44.
