What makes a Medicare Advantage plan different
Instead of Medicare paying providers directly, you receive your care through a private plan. The plan sets the network, the drug formulary, and the copays. In return, you get an annual out-of-pocket maximum and usually extra benefits.
HMO vs PPO — the trade-off
HMOs generally require you to stay in-network and get referrals but have lower premiums. PPOs let you see out-of-network providers at a higher cost, with no referral requirement.
